Deputies say a driver hit and killed a pedestrian in unincorporated east Salem Thursday.

A 911 caller just before midnight Thursday reported a vehicle had struck a pedestrian on Southeast Cordon Road near Pennsylvania Avenue, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Friday.

Responding deputies and emergency medical staff found the pedestrian dead at the scene.

The driver, a 24-year-old man, stayed at the scene. Deputies have made no citations or arrests, according to the news release.

The sheriff’s office said it wouldn’t identify the pedestrian, a 39-year-old woman, until her family is notified of her death.

A city call log shows a crash was reported at 11:55 p.m. Thursday at Northeast Cordon Road and State Street.

Southeast Cordon Road was closed between Wagon Wheel Drive and State Street for around three hours during a county Crash Team investigation.

Investigators found a silver four-door Lexus was driving south when it hit the pedestrian in the roadway. They do not believe speed contributed to the crash, the news release said.

Investigators said anyone who may have information about the crash should call the sheriff’s office’s non-emergency number at 503-588-5032, or to submit a tip by texting TIPMCSO and their tip to 847411.
