Long-term care facilities are continuing to drive case counts in Marion County, with two facilities reporting new outbreaks in the last week, according to the latest state data.

Tierra Rose Care Center, a nursing home at 4254 Weathers St. N.E., reported three cases since an onset on July 28, according to an Oregon Health Authority report released Wednesday.

Each week the state releases information about significant outbreaks at long-term care facilities and workplaces throughout Oregon. Long-term care facilities are listed on the report if there are three or more cases or one or more deaths.

Cedar Village, an assisted living facility located at 4452 Lancaster Dr. N.E., has reported three cases since an initial case was reported on July 9.

A resident died two weeks ago at Bonaventure of Salem, located at 3441 Boone Rd. S.E., but the facility said the resident tested negative for the virus twice before returning to the facility on hospice care.

Jeremiah Gray, divisional director of operations at Bonaventure, said the resident initially tested positive on July 14, but six days later tested negative on July 20 and again July 21.

The health authority didn’t immediately return questions about how deaths are counted in the weekly report.

Gray said all residents and staff at the Salem facility were tested and by July 16 all came back negative.

At Farmington Square Assisted Living on 960 Boone Rd. S.E., 15 residents have tested positive and seven have died in an outbreak that started on June 23. The rest have recovered as of Wednesday, said spokesman John Heitkemper.

He said of 16 staff who tested positive, three are still recovering and the rest have returned to work under CDC guidelines.

Hidden Lakes Independent Living was previously marked resolved after seeing no new cases in the 28 days since the most recent person began showing symptoms, but reported two additional cases in the last week. That brings the total cases there to seven. One person has died.

An outbreak at Brookstone Alzheimer’s Care Center in south Salem has been marked resolved in OHA’s latest report. The facility had previously reported 67 residents had tested positive and 13 had died, making it the deadliest outbreak at such a facility locally.

Pan American Berry Growers, a farm near Brooks, is the latest workplace to report an outbreak in Marion County. Since the first onset on July 29, 11 people have tested positive.

At the Oregon State Hospital in Salem, 12 staff have tested positive, but no patients have tested positive, according to an update posted to hospital’s website Thursday. The most recent onset was reported on July 28.

In the update, the hospital said it has taken several steps to minimize transmission of the disease like screening patients for symptoms twice a day and quarantining and testing new patients before they’re transferred to other units within the hospital.
