Your Thursday evening update on Salem news

Good evening, Salem!

With today’s economy, Salem Reporter is curious where families go for the traditional back-to-school shopping. Or is that even a tradition with your family?

Local students head back to school Monday, Sept. 6, or Tuesday, Sept. 7, depending on the grade.

If you’re a long-time Salem resident, you may remember Arbuckle’s Shoes in downtown as one stop. JCPenney, now gone too, also was a pretty standard stop for those new pants, blouses and shirts.

Share your recollections of those long-ago shopping days or tell us what your plan is this year for your school kids. Send an email to Managing Editor Rachel Alexander at [email protected].

Here’s some of the local news from your team at Salem Reporter. Remember, you can see all of our stories anytime you want on our website.

Have an event to tell the community about?

Get your event in front of Salem. Who can post to our Events Calendar? Just about anyone. We ask that you provide a fair description of the event and the cost, if any. Government agencies can – and should – list their public meetings. Nonprofits can list fundraising events open to the community. And clubs and groups can enter events that are open to the public.

In other words, if it’s happening, and it’s public, you can list. There is no cost for our base listing and you have options to buy even more attention: SUBMIT EVENT
