Your Monday evening update on Salem news

Good evening from your team at Salem Reporter.

It’s been a years-long wait, but Salem’s shiny new YMCA finally has an opening date: October 20.

The Withnell Family YMCA will open its doors a little over a month after the nonprofit’s leaders welcomed the Salem community to see the nearly-finished structure at 685 Court St. N.E. The Y announced the opening Monday on its Facebook page.

The three-story, $30.5 million rebuild of the nearly century-old gym and community center in Salem has been in the works for over four years, with demolition on the old building completed in late 2019. In addition to normal gym amenities, the new building offers a preschool program and will focus on family programs for people of every age.

Meantime here’s a bit of today’s other news. Catch all Salem Reporter’s stories anytime on our website.
