Good evening, Salem.
The city plans the same as in years past, including:
•Northeast 17th Street along the western edge of the fairgrounds will be closed from Sunnyview Road to Silverton Road.
•Northeast Sunnyview Road, which runs along the southern edge of the fairgrounds, will be closed from Northeast 16th Street to Evergreen Avenue.
•Northeast Woodrow Street, which leads to the fairgrounds off Portland Road, will be shut a block from the fairgrounds at 16th Street.
And veteran fairgoers know the game of finding creative ways to get free parking around the fairgrounds. Just beware of businesses that post their lots so you don’t come back with a big stuffed bear only to find your vehicle towed.
And the city will be posting “No Parking” signs on residential streets around the fairgrounds. Those testing whether the signs could wind up with a ticket.
Finally, watch your speed on Silverton Road. Excited kids, tired moms and dads and others are crossing the road day and night around the fairgrounds. During the run of the fair, the city cuts the speed limit to 20. If you’re in a hurry, find another route.
