Your Monday evening update on Salem news

Good evening….
The news from Turkey and Syria gets worse by the hour as recovery efforts continue following devastating earthquakes while powerful aftershocks continue.
Thousands are dead and rescue efforts are stymied in part by the massive piles of debris from collapsed buildings.
You can help us report on how Salem is reacting to the news. Send an email to Editor Les Zaitz ([email protected]) if you have any of the following information:
*Are you a native of the areas struck but now living in Salem?
*Do you have other connections to the devastated areas?
*Are you participating in any campaigns to raise relief help?
*Are you an educator or scholar with expertise in this region?
*Are you a relief volunteer on standby for dispatch overseas?
Our city is a half a world away from these disasters, but the people of Salem typically unite to help others no matter where they are. We’re ready to share local information.
As a reminder, there are ways you can prepare for an earthquake, detailed here by the Oregon Department of Emergency Management. Oregon experiences minor quakes all the time. The most notable recent earthquake was last Oct. 7, when a 4.4 magnitude quake hit east of Lebanon.
