Your Friday evening update on Salem news

Good evening….

Salem police converged outside the Court Street Christian Church just before noon Friday, March 3, to arrest a dirt bike rider driving recklessly through Salem, the agency reported.

“The rider tried to get away and lost control of the dirt bike and laid it down. As the officer rolled up, he tried to get away again, but was apprehended,” according to an email from Angela Hedrick, Salem Police Department public information officer.

She said a 17-year-old boy was arrested for reckless driving and attempt to elude and lodged at the Marion County Juvenile Department. The agency doesn’t release the names of accused juveniles.

In other developments, we continue to press for information from the Salem Police Department and the Salem-Keizer School District about the armed student encountered at South Salem High School on Wednesday, March 1.

As we do, we are interested in hearing from parents on their thoughts about the event. We are especially interested in hearing from South Salem students on their experiences and thoughts. You can request to keep your name confidential. Send your remarks to Editor Les Zaitz by email at [email protected]. As appropriate, we will protect your identity.
