Your Thursday evening update on Salem news

Good evening, Salem.
A commander who’s worked for the Marion County Sheriff’s Office for almost two decades will be the next undersheriff, second-in-command of the law enforcement agency.
Commander Jay Bergmann is the county’s new undersheriff, the county announced Thursday. Sheriff Nick Hunter promoted him to the position to replace retiring Undersheriff Jeff Wood, who will leave in October after a 29 year career.
Bergmann has served on the SWAT and tactical teams and most recently oversaw community corrections for the Sheriff’s Office. He was promoted to commander in 2022.
