A quick traffic alert from Salem police – Northeast Commercial Street is closed between Northeast Hickory and Pine Streets as of 5 p.m. as police respond to a crash. There are no injuries, a Salem police spokesman said, but you may want to avoid the area during your commute.
City leaders are still hoping for another chapter in Salem’s commercial airline saga.
A split city council voted this week to set aside $300,000 as part of a pool of subsidies to attract a new airline. The city’s contribution will join $1.2 million raised by private sources and should be enough to get an airline to the table – but whether anyone will be interested in flying out of Salem remains to be seen.
If there’s no airline willing to play ball, the money won’t get spent.
