Your Tuesday evening update on Salem news

Salem Reporter logo

Good evening, Salem.

We know it seems grim out there for many people.

Our reporters are committed to covering life in Salem – the hardships, but also the helpers and the joy.

Toward the end of the year, news often slows down a bit and we have time over the holidays to feature some people or organizations doing important work to make our community better. The “news slows down” aspect may be a dream this year, but we’d still like to mark the Thanksgiving season by highlighting some good happening in Salem.

One such recent example – Operation School Bell, a program that provides clothing and food to children in need through local schools, got a donation of more than $20,000 from the Dutch Bros. foundation. The program is run by the Assistance League of Salem-Keizer. The donation came from a day of coffee sales at local Dutch Bros coffee stands, with $1 from every drink purchased donated.

Do you have ideas for good people or works we should feature this holiday season? Send a note to Managing Editor Rachel Alexander at [email protected].

Here’s some of today’s news. Head to our website anytime for our latest local reporting.
