Your Tuesday evening update on Salem news

Good evening, Salem.

This week, hundreds of local high school students will don a cap and gown and walk across the graduation stage.

Since our inception, Salem Reporter has written a series each June profiling a selection of graduating seniors — typically one from each high school in the Salem-Keizer School District, plus a few from special district programs.

Our aim with the series is to provide a snapshot of the young people heading out into the world – their accomplishments, hopes and challenges. The Class of 2024 had their freshman year of high school online during the Covid pandemic. Many missed starting sports, music ensembles or other high school milestones.

This year’s graduates include a student body president, a state wrestling champion, an accomplished potter and a mom who earned her diploma in four years despite being behind when she got pregnant as a sophomore. We’ll publish their stories over the next week.
