Your Tuesday evening update on Salem news

Good evening, Salem.
Paving work for two parking lots at Minto Brown Island Park is scheduled to begin Tuesday, May 28. The project will turn the gravel lot next to the dog park into a paved lot, decreasing flooding and mud.
The $1.5 million project is funded by the bond voters approved in 2022. More information about the closure and its impacts is on the city website. The dog park and adjacent walking trails will remain open during construction.
But the construction means an annual fundraiser that draws crowds of dogs to Minto Brown Island Park won’t take place this year.
Willamette Vital Health is not holding the annual Wag-N-Walk, which had been scheduled for June 1.
The hospice fundraiser pays for the Pet Peace of Mind program, where volunteers help with pet care tasks hospice patients can no longer perform so patients can keep their pets.
Funds from other donors will keep the program running this year, and Walk-N-Wag will return to Minto Brown on June 21, 2025.
