Your Tuesday evening update on Salem news

Good evening, Salem.
Marion County Fire District No. 1 received a report of a two-alarm fire around 9:40 a.m. at the Amber Park Apartments in the 200 block of Northeast Colt Lane, according to the agency.
A family cat was found dead from the fire.
Fire crews otherwise found no occupants in any apartment and got the fire under control around 10:20 a.m.
The original reports said there was a heavy fire from the second story back exterior of a two-story complex and a child possibly still inside.
“The first responding engine arrived in under four minutes and immediately went into rescue mode allowing the engine company to enter the fire building without back-up,” the fire district said in a statement.
The agency is investigating the fire. The displaced families are receiving assistance from Red Cross.
