Good evening, Salem.

Firework sales in Oregon begin Sunday. With that date comes the first of our annual reminders: please don’t burn the state down while celebrating Independence Day (or any other holiday, for that matter).

You can review rules from the Oregon State Fire Marshal here on what’s legal and what’s not. Fireworks can’t be used in state or city parks, state campgrounds, beaches and on most federal lands in Oregon. Legal sales end July 6.

Now for some more fun summer reminders.

Make Music Day performances will continue well into the evening, so if you haven’t ventured outside yet to catch a local band or singer, you’re not too late. Check out a schedule here and read our dispatch below from street corners around town this morning.

The city also has space in some summer camps held in Salem parks next week. Check out Salem’s summer recreation programs here for more information.
