Your Friday evening update on Salem news

Salem Reporter logo

Good evening, Salem.

School is out, and following likely rain this weekend the National Weather Service forecasts sunny days ahead.

Starting today, the city of Salem has turned on splash pads to help families stay cool and have fun in Salem’s parks. Each is self-operating.

Spray fountains at River Road Park and Riverfront Park will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, and fountains at Englewood Park, Fairmount Park, Northgate Park, Wes Bennett Park and West Salem Park will operate from noon to 8 p.m. daily. See the city’s Facebook post for addresses.

The cost to run the fountains throughout the summer was among proposed cuts this year, but the Salem Budget Committee voted to keep the water running for now using cultural and tourism funding.
