Good evening, Salem.

The school year is almost over, and one final event this week celebrates student athletes and prep athletics.

The annual Beacon Awards, sponsored by the Salem Keizer High School Sports Booster Club, take place Thursday, June 13, at the Elsinore Theatre at 7 p.m.

The organization will recognize one student representing each sport, as well as “Beacons” who have played a pivotal role in student athletics, whether as competitors, coaches or leaders.

“This brings together today’s athletes with those who have gone before. Today’s athletes get to see the shoulders upon which they now stand and those being honored as Beacons get to see a glimpse of the future,” said Beacons Vice President Scott Whipple in a statement.

We’ll report on the winners later, but if you’d like to attend, tickets are available here for $25. Proceeds help support the club’s efforts to cover the cost of sports participation for student-athletes who face financial barriers to participating.
