Good evening, Salem.

Businesses in northeast Salem are invited to a meeting Wednesday afternoon to discuss safety and livability with the city’s police and fire chiefs.

While downtown public safety has been a focus of discussion in recent weeks in Salem, police officials have long identified the northeast part of the city as a hotspot for gun violence.

The event will be held at 1 p.m. on July 30 at the Chemeketa Community College Ag Hub building off Northeast 45th Avenue. Interim City Manager Krishna Namburi, Police Chief Trevor Womack and Fire Chief David Gerboth will present information and listen to questions and concerns.

Those seeking more information can call 503-763-3465. If you can’t make it but want to hear more, we’ll have a reporter there as well to summarize the discussion.
