The Salem firefighter injured Tuesday evening while fighting a house fire in south Salem on the mend.

He was released from the hospital Wednesday morning, said Brian Carrara, the fire department’s deputy chief of administrative services.

The two-alarm fire in the Faye Wright neighborhood was likely caused by oil-staining rags left on the back patio, Carrara said.

“The Salem Fire Department wants to remind the community that rags or other materials used in the wood staining process should be disposed of in a flammable container with a self-closing lid,” Carrara said.
