Your Friday evening update on Salem news

Good evening, Salem.
Two juniors at South Salem High School want to talk to you.
Students Sofia Castellanos and Noah Mayer have organized a community forum about the district’s expected budget cuts and bargaining with teachers and classified workers. The event will be Wednesday, Jan. 10 at South, 1910 Church St. S.E., from 6-7:30 p.m.
Castellanos told Salem Reporter she wanted to provide a space for concerns raised by teachers and the Salem-Keizer Education Association to be given equal weight to talking points from district leaders. She’s hoping to get both students and adults in the community to attend.
We’ll have a more detailed story Monday about the event and what the students want adults in Salem to know.
