Your Tuesday evening update on Salem news

Good evening, Salem.
Nominations are now open for the Crystal Apple awards, the annual honor recognizing local educators at a black tie gala.
The awards are a joint effort of the Salem-Keizer School District and Salem Area Chamber of Commerce. A student, parent, fellow educator or community members can nominate any educator at a public or private school in Salem and Keizer. Awards aren’t limited to those in the classroom — past nominees have included bus drivers, custodians, counselors and other school workers.
Nominations are due Thursday, Feb. 29 at 5 p.m. The award ceremony will be held at the Salem Convention Center on May 22.
