Good evening, Salem.

Yesterday, we published a story about a recent coyote attack in West Salem.

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife confirmed there was a group of coyotes present in the Orchard Heights area. In light of the attack, where a woman was bitten on her thigh, let’s recap some tips on how to deter and stay safe from coyotes.

Fallen fruit, pet food and unsecured garbage left outside are a few of the things that can attract coyotes, so state officials recommend removing those items. If you find yourself in the presence of coyotes, you can scare them off with loud noises like yelling, banging pots and pans or using an air horn.
