Your Thursday evening update on Salem news

Good evening, Salem.

Are you interested in getting your hands dirty while spending time in one of Salem’s parks?

If so, there’s an opportunity for you at Minto Brown Island Park this weekend.

The city of Salem is hosting the “No Ivy League” clean-up on Saturday, Feb. 21, and could use more volunteers to take care of trees at Minto Brown. For people wanting to participate, wear close-toed shoes and clothes appropriate for the forecast. There will be limited tools provided by the city, so bring your own loppers and pruners if possible.

The clean-up will be from 9-11 a.m. and volunteers will meet at the start of the park’s Blue Loop along the slough trail. There will be free parking in lot #3. Minto Brown is located at 2200 Minto Island Rd. S.W.

People are encouraged to register online ahead of time. Registration is available here.
