Your Wednesday evening update on Salem news

Good evening, Salem.

The city is asking people to make their voices heard on a project to improve pedestrian safety along a stretch of Northeast Fisher Road.

The project will cover Northeast Fisher Road, extending from Silverton Road to just south of Sunnyview Road. It will add sidewalks, bike infrastructure, pedestrian crossings and left turn lanes at Northeast Beverly Avenue.

A Sunnyview traffic signal will be getting replaced, and other improvements include new pavement, curbs and gutters.

Its funding will come from the city’s Safety and Livability Bond, a $300 million package passed by voters in 2022. The project is currently in the design phase, and construction is scheduled to start in 2028.

People interested in sharing their feedback, can use an online survey, which is accepting public comment until the end of day Friday, Feb. 20. The survey is available here.
