Your Thursday evening update on Salem news

Good evening, Salem.
Support workers in Salem schools began mediation today with the Salem-Keizer School District. It’s the first session with help from the state as the association tries to reach a contract and the district faces a budget deficit.
Members and supporters of the Association of Salem-Keizer Education Support Professionals rallied outside the school district offices today. The union represents classroom assistants, bus drivers and many office workers in the district.
Mediation with the teacher union is also ongoing, with more sessions scheduled for January.
