Good evening, Salem.

Over 100 educators and supporters rallied outside the Salem-Keizer School District headquarters Tuesday afternoon. Inside the building, representatives from the union and district leaders were at work in a third mediation session trying to settle a contract for the district’s 2,600 teachers after months of bargaining.

Teachers at the rally told Salem Reporter that school safety was their biggest concern they hoped to see addressed in a new contract. That issue, alongside class sizes, caseloads, preparation time and pay, remain key unresolved points in negotiations.

We’ll have a full report tomorrow on where negotiations stand as winter break begins.
