Good evening, Salem.

News of Salem’s library cutting its hours last week hit hard, with many residents voicing their concerns and frustration on social media and in comments to the city council.

Reporter Abbey McDonald explained in her story the reason for the cuts, which are due to understaffing caused by library leaders opting not to fill open jobs. The library is acting to trim its budget in anticipation of cuts as the city faces a budget crisis.

Now we’d like to hear from you about the impact the hours cuts will have. The main branch of the library will be closed Sundays and close earlier in the evening, while the West Salem branch will be open just two days per week.

Let us know if or how the reduced hours will affect you or your family by emailing Abbey at [email protected]. We may use your responses in a future article.
