Good evening, Salem.

If it looks a little orange outside, it’s not your imagination.

The state Department of Environmental Quality has issued an air quality alert for Marion County and the Portland metro area, saying they expect smog levels to rise to a level unhealthy for people sensitive to pollution.

The alert is in effect through 8 p.m. Thursday in Marion County.

The agency said sensitive groups include children, pregnant people, older adults and people with heart disease or respiratory conditions. Health officials recommend sensitive groups limit outdoor activity when pollution levels are high.

You can check local air quality at airnow.gov.
