Your Tuesday evening update on Salem news

Salem Reporter logo

Good evening, Salem.

City officials will once again discuss public safety, livability and homelessness Wednesday morning, and they’d like to hear from you.

Anyone in Salem is welcome to attend the session, which will be from 9 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. on the first floor in the conference center at 440 S. Church St. S.E.

That comes after two city sessions focused on business concerns in downtown and northeast Salem, and escalating rhetoric about unsheltered homelessness and its impacts.

City leaders are preparing some pilot programs intended to add mental health responders to fire calls, and are contemplating the return of downtown’s police bike team. We’ll continue to keep you posted on these discussions and the solutions being considered.
