Your Friday evening update on Salem news

Good evening, Salem.
Salem city leaders are meeting Monday to talk about the city’s budget deficit — and library supporters are gearing up for another advocacy push.
In the coming months, councilors will decide what options they want to pursue to raise taxes, fees or other revenue to address a budget deficit. Without more money, the city’s library and other services will see deep cuts next year. Library advocates want the city to take the funding issue to voters with a property tax levy to pay for library services.
Reporter Joe Siess explains the latest below. He’ll be at Monday’s discussion to keep you in the loop.
Meanwhile, if you’re a library fan, you can support programs by buying books at a one-day fiction sale this weekend. Friends of the Salem Public Library will be in Anderson Rooms A & B at the main library branch on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The sale includes fiction for adults, as well as some non-book items for kids, like educational kits and outdoor play equipment.
