Your Friday evening update on Salem news

Good evening, Salem.

The volunteers who maintain Salem’s historic Pioneer Cemetery are celebrating 40 years of tending to gravestones and pruning back vegetation.

Friends of Salem Pioneers is looking for new blood to keep up the word they do preserving a key piece of Salem’s history. We wrote last year about their efforts – and noted that one of their volunteers, at 72, was among the group’s younger members.

People wanting to volunteer, including for an upcoming clean-up on Sept. 20, can contact the city’s parks volunteer coordinator, Amanda Sitter, at [email protected].
