Salem’s library is off the city chopping block for now. Dozens of Salemites rallied again in support of the library as the city’s budget committee voted unanimously Wednesday night to use saved money in a cultural and tourism fund to pay operating costs for the next year.

The move means six library workers won’t be laid off in July – but it doesn’t restore hours that were already cut at the start of the year.
