Your Tuesday evening update on Salem news

Good evening, Salem.
If you’d like to watch the debate, it will run on ABC and most other major news networks, and stream live on the ABC website, Hulu, Disney+, among other platforms.
If you’d like to do anything but that, a reminder that the Marion County Fire District is hosting an open house with free shave ice from 6-8 p.m. at the Four Corners Station, 300 Cordon Rd. N.E. Salem Cinema is also showing “A Woman Under the Influence” at 6 p.m. to celebrate the film’s 50th anniversary.(Tickets $9.) And if local politics are more your speed, the Salem-Keizer School Board meets tonight too.
Our newsroom will remain focused on local races in the weeks leading up to Election Day.
But we would love your input on an experiment we ran in 2020.
Election Day is often a quiet affair until the evening, when results begin coming in. When stakes are high and races are hotly contested, it can be a stressful day. And the last presidential election occurred in the middle of a pandemic, when many of us were struggling with the effects of isolation.
Longtime subscribers may remember Salem Reporter’s effort to relieve some of that stress. We asked readers to send in pet photos and published a gallery on the morning of the election. (Sadly, the photos themselves were lost in a website migration, but the captions live on.)
So – should we resurrect the Election Day pet photo gallery? Is there something else we could do to capture a little community and civic unity on one of the most divisive days of the year? Drop Managing Editor Rachel Alexander a note with your thoughts: [email protected].
