Good morning, Salem.
The academy has a permanent display of artifacts from the 2001 terrorist attack where nearly 3,000 people, including over 400 first responders, died. Hundreds more have died since from cancer and other illnesses contracted as a result of rescue efforts.
Artifacts on display at the academy include a floor beam from the World Trade Center and a section from the base of the North Tower. There is also a video tribute to first responders and a painting by artist Ricardo Salazar, “Memoriam,” showing the attacks.
The academy is located at 4190 Aumsville Hwy. S.E. in Salem. Its gates will be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday for drop-in viewing.
