Good morning, Salem.
It’s Oregon’s first Navy Week, and dozens of Navy personnel are in town to perform music and work on community projects.
Today from 9:30-10 a.m., the city will host a welcoming event with a Brass Quintet performance and proclamation ceremony with Mayor Chris Hoy and Navy Rear Admiral Charles “Mike” Brown. It will be at the Peach Plaza, Salem Civic Center, 555 Liberty Way S.E. according to the city’s announcement.
This evening, the Navy Band Northwest Brass Quintet will play at the Salem Public Library, 585 Liberty St. S.E., starting at 6 p.m.
Tomorrow, Wednesday, Sept. 27, there will be a Willamette River Clean Up from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Volunteers are welcome, and pre-registration is required. Sign up to volunteer on water in provided canoes or on land. Volunteers will meet at Riverfront Park, 200 Water Street N.E.
Thursday, Sept. 28, sailors will head to the Willamette Heritage Center to help with restoration and construction projects. At 6 p.m., there will be a free presentation in the Dye House on Oregon’s Naval History, followed by a free performance by Navy Band Northwest from 6:45 – 7:45 p.m. The heritage center is at 1313 Mill St. S.E.
On Friday, Sept. 29, the band will perform at Riverfront Park’s Gerry Frank Amphitheater, 200 Water Street N.E.

ATTEND THE TOWN HALL
A Town Hall open and free to the public will explore issues around Salem’s new wage tax. Salem Reporter is hosting the event Wednesday, Oct. 11, at the Elsinore Theatre. Voters will get a chance to decide whether the tax stays in November.
