Good morning, Salem.
In two weeks, community members will gather to discuss ways to improve Salem schools and neighborhoods while supporting families and children.
The free event, on Nov. 7, is organized by the Community Business and Education Leaders, a group of local community leaders working to support education in the Salem-Keizer School District. The event will feature speakers including Salem-Keizer Superintendent Andrea Castañeda, Salem Police Chief Trevor Womack and council chairs from Kennedy, Highland and Hallman-Northgate neighborhoods.
The gathering will examine the role of urban poverty in the school system and the importance of better housing and neighborhoods for family and children to succeed in school.
