The Latest Stories For You From Salem Reporter

Good morning, Salem.
The race for Oregon House District 22 between Rep. Tracy Cramer, a Republican, and opponent Lesly Muñoz, a Democrat, may depend on returns from people whose ballots were rejected for issues like signature verification. The seat represents northeast Salem and Woodburn in the Oregon House.
As of Tuesday night’s ballot count, Muñoz leads by 123 votes according to Marion County elections data. County Clerk Bill Burgess said that, as of Tuesday, 652 ballots were not yet accepted for counting, most of them waiting for signature verification, called “curing.” There were 175 accepted to be counted as of Tuesday evening.
When signatures cannot be verified, officials inform the voter and provide a registration card for them to update their ballots. The deadline to respond is Nov. 26. Voters can check to make sure their ballot was counted on the Oregon Secretary of State’s website. Each campaign has received a list of challenged ballots which they may use to reach out to voters.
The clerk’s office will certify the election by Dec. 2.
