Good morning, Salem.

If you’d like to help local kids get toys this holiday season but don’t have the funds to go shopping, Marion County has a job for you.

Western University of Health Sciences Lebanon Oregon

The county is seeking volunteers to help run the third annual Toy Swap, held Saturday, Dec. 8, at Keizer City Hall.

Volunteers are needed during the event to check people in and keep things running smoothly, as well as the Friday before to help sort and clean donated toys. All volunteer shifts are at Keizer City Hall, 930 Chemawa Rd. Learn more and sign up here.

Also, we’re putting together a holiday gift drive roundup. If you or your organization is collecting toys, gifts or other donations for people in need, please let Managing Editor Rachel Alexander know by emailing [email protected]. Send us the information by Friday, Nov. 22.

We’d like to know:

  • Who the drive is benefitting
  • What organization or group is organizing it
  • What’s needed, and how people can get it to you
  • The deadline to receive gifts
  • Information for families to shop or sign up, if sign-ups are taken
  • A link to a flyer, event, website announcement or another public listing of the drive

Shop local for the holidays

Salem Reporter is inviting locally-owned shops with interesting gifts for the holiday to help us spread the “shop local” spirit in Salem.

We will publish a guide to local retailers on Friday, Nov. 29. There is no cost for participation, but here’s what we need from your business:

  1. Name, address, hours, phone, website
  2. One gift item described + price – 3 sentences or so.
  3. If possible, a photo of the gift.
  4. Item should be in stock at your store
  5. Gift certificates – do you offer them?

To have your item included, send an email to [email protected] by noon Monday, Nov. 25.
