Good morning, Salem.
Waldo Middle School’s jazz band took an unconventional road trip recently, performing at three senior living facilities in Keizer and Newberg on Monday, April 27.

The ensemble played at Bonaventure at Keizer Station, Solista Newberg and Brookdale Newberg, according to Alicia Rasmussen, a local musician who helped organize the outing. The band is under the direction of Juan Valdez.
Students traveled by bus, with a parent “roadie” van accompanying the ensemble carrying a keyboard, amps, drums and stands and snacks and lunch.
“This was such a positive and memorable experience for everyone – the students and the residents. I could not have been more proud of these young adults!” Rasmussen said in an email.
