Good morning, Salem.

Families of Oregonians in prison will soon have fewer options for seeing their loved ones.

The Department of Corrections is cutting nearly in half visiting hours for Oregon State Penitentiary, the state’s only maximum security prison and the largest of three in Salem. Cuts are also forthcoming at other state prisons, including Santiam Correctional Institution and Oregon State Correctional Institution, both in southeast Salem.

In lighter news, this evening is Salem’s First Friday Art Walk from 5-8 p.m. downtown. A number of galleries will have special receptions or events. Check out our guide to the latest in local art and museums below.
