The Latest Stories For You From Salem Reporter

Good morning, Salem.
After a night of drinking on the nearby Willamette River a Salem man accused residents of the camp of stealing his handgun and knife, according to a Salem Police Department affidavit.
The report said the man went home before returning with a shotgun and pistol, holding one camp resident at gunpoint then injuring him and killing his friend, 29-year-old Charley A. Hodges.
Arlie C. Thompson, 24, has since been indicted on charges including second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder in Polk County Circuit Court. More court proceedings are scheduled for May 1.
A GoFundMe is available to raise money for Hodges’ funeral expenses and to help loved ones travel to the ceremony.
“Charley died saving his best friend,” his family wrote on the page. “But our son died a hero saving his loved ones from this tragic incident.”
