Looking for a new hobby for 2026? Two options are opening today.

A new Portland-based studio company, Metragnome, is opening a building with 52 rehearsal spaces for local bands, with monthly or hourly rental options. For the story below, reporter Hailey Cook spoke with local performers who, until now, have been practicing in garages, backyards and warehouses. They’re looking forward to having a designated home.

Salem’s Willamette Art Center reopens today in a new location, offering low-cost ceramics classes and open studio time. Sign-ups are open now for winter 2026 classes.
