Good morning, Salem, and happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

A protest for immigrant rights will kick off at 11 a.m. at the Capitol and run until 3 p.m. Northeast Court Street will be closed between Northeast Winter Street and Northeast 12th Street from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., according to a city press release. Drivers are asked to plan ahead and expect increased pedestrian traffic. No other closures are planned in the city.

An MLK Day celebration for local leaders who are continuing the civil rights leader’s work will start at 1 p.m. in the McKay High School auditorium with an hour-long program recognizing those leaders. It will be followed by a peace walk starting at the school at 2440 Lancaster Dr.N.E., and ending at To God Be The Glory Church at 4455 Silverton Rd. N.E. around 3 p.m.

Most government offices will be closed Monday for the holiday.
