Good morning, Salem.

In October, Jessica Warren went to the emergency room at Salem Hospital for severe abdominal pain. She had been married less than a year, and was expecting her first child with her husband Erick.

Salem doctors found a tear in her heart’s major artery. She was taken to Oregon Health and Science University by helicopter, and Erick sped down the highway to follow her.

Their son, Jaxson, was born by emergency c-section on Halloween. He was four months premature, and weighed just over 2 pounds.

On Thursday, Salem Reporter spoke with Jessica and Erick over Zoom from her hospital room. After several surgeries, Jessica expects to be discharged soon. Jaxson is getting healthier in the neonatal intensive care unit and now weighs 4 pounds, 8 ounces.
