The Latest Stories For You From Salem Reporter

Good morning, Salem.
Gusts of wind along the Interstate 5 corridor are expected to hit Salem midday. The National Weather Service in a 4 a.m. Wednesday forecast said the track of a storm coming up from California most likely means Salem will see gusts of 35 to 50 mph, with a chance of up to 60 mph.
“We are taking this pretty seriously,” Portland General Electric spokesman Drew Hanson told Salem Reporter. Damage from last week’s storm, which knocked out power for thousands in Salem, came largely from wind gusts in the 35-50 mph range, he said.
In addition to wind bringing down power lines, tree falls are likely since the soil remains saturated from last week’s rains.
Both PGE and Salem Electric said they’re prepared with crews and materials on hand to quickly address outages if they occur.
Salem residents can report issues on city roads and sidewalks to the public works dispatch line at 503-588-6311.
Our reporters will keep you posted throughout the day as needed depending on how the actual wind compares to the forecast. Stay safe out there, Salem.
