The Latest Stories For You From Salem Reporter

Good morning, Salem.
Salem will be getting a $2.8 million boost from the U.S. Department of Transportation for projects that aim to reduce pedestrian deaths and serious injuries on the road.
The grant, which the city announced on Dec. 15, will support the Salem Vision Zero Plan which includes lower speed limits, more speed radars and a public education campaign on road safety.
“We’ve been lobbying our state and federal partners and hoping that something like this would come through,” said Mayor Chris Hoy in a statement. “Keeping our streets safe to bike on, walk on, and drive on is a huge issue for every growing city. This is going to be a tremendous help in saving the lives of our residents.”
Read more about Vision Zero here. Earlier this year, a regional study sought feedback about dangerous intersections and crosswalks in Salem, which you can read about here.
