Salem police publish a log of a selection of calls officers responded to. Many of you said you’d like to see the information in our newsletter, so we’re again publishing the most recent update. The department received over 700 calls from Dec. 8-10.
These reports come directly from Salem police. They can be found online on the agency’s Facebook and Nextdoor pages.
Gunshot wound / Riverfront Park
A man reported he was on a run with a friend after midnight at the park and was robbed by three juveniles. During a scuffle, the man was shot in the hand. The victim then declined to further cooperate with the investigation.
Disturbances / 100 block Commercial ST NE
Officers responded back-to-back to reports of disturbances at a downtown bar. In the first, a man was trespassed. In the second, witnesses reported employees being assaulted by several patrons who were asked to leave. Two men were arrested on assault and harassment charges, including one of them having a parole violation warrant.
Trespass with warrants / 1500 block Hawthorne AV NE
Security staff at a business requested assistance when a man refused to leave the property. The officer learned the suspect had five outstanding warrants and was jailed.
Recovered stolen vehicle / Lancaster DR & Rickey ST SE
A patrol officer doing an area check located a stolen vehicle which was reported that morning. The vehicle was occupied by the thief who had not noticed the officer drive up. The officer found property from other break-ins inside the vehicle. The suspect had eight outstanding warrants from Benton County where he was transported and lodged.
Theft / 4900 block Southampton DR SE
An officer witnessed a male suspect stealing packages from a porch then get into a car. The vehicle was stopped, and the suspect and the getaway driver were arrested for theft and trespass, as well as an outstanding parole violation warrant.
