The Latest Stories For You From Salem Reporter

Good morning, Salem.
This evening, you likely have a chance to gather with your neighbors to share food.
It’s National Night Out, a community building and crime prevention effort where neighborhoods host block parties to forge community. Some are attended by local police officers, while others are just neighbors gathering.
Several Salem neighborhoods are hosting larger events. In total, more than 120 block parties are planned around the city, though there’s no public list of all of them. Look for flyers around your neighborhood or check your local park.
These National Night Out events are organized by neighborhood associations:
- Highland potluck, 6-9 p.m. River Road City Park, 3045 River Road N.
- Southwest Association of Neighbors, 6-8 p.m., Nelson Park, 3461 Croisan Creek Rd. S.
- Grant Neighborhood Association, 6-9 p.m., Grant School Park, 1390 Cottage St. N.E.
- Night After National Night Out for the whole community, Wednesday, August 7, at 5 p.m., at McKay Park, 2755 Hollywood Drive N.E.
