Good morning, Salem.

We’re grateful to all of you who attended our mayoral debate last night. Mayor Chris Hoy and Councilor Julie Hoy laid out very different visions for Salem and how they’d approach leading the city over the next two years.

We’ll have a recap of the debate later today. You can also watch video of the event here.

Thanks to the candidates, Salem City Club, Capital Community Media and the staff at the Elsinore Theatre for making the event possible.

In other city news, Salem’s budget committee meets again tonight at 6 p.m. in the city council chambers at City Hall, 555 Liberty St. S.E. The committee will likely discuss possible ways to restore city money for summer movies and concerts in Riverfront Park.

The committee agenda is here, and the meeting will be streamed live on YouTube here. Anyone can sign up to testify at the meeting about any part of the budget, or submit written comments. More about how to weigh in on the budget is here.

Finally, ballots for the May 21 primary are in the mail and should be arriving soon. You can catch our final election stories below for local races, and view all our coverage on the election section of our website here.
