Good afternoon, Salem.

City leaders later this week plan to announce Salem’s new commercial airline, which officials have discussed for months without naming.

There is little information about the announcement scheduled for Thursday, July 13. But a representative from the airline is scheduled to attend and discuss service to be offered out of the Salem Municipal Airport.

It’s the first major update on the years-long effort to bring commercial flights to Salem after months without details on the matter.

The Salem Municipal Airport last saw commercial service in 2008, when Delta Airlines left the city after a year and a half of service due to the impact of the recession on the flight industry.

Bringing an airline back to Salem required improvements to the passenger terminal building, a new airport security program, and additional police, fire and airport staff. We will report the announcement when it’s made.

Now, here are some of our latest reports. You can find more on our website.
