Good morning, Salem.

The city is asking for the public’s help in donating food and pet supplies to its newly opened navigation center.

The shelter allows 75 homeless people at a time to get help with mental health and addiction as they prepare to move out directly into housing. Those staying at the facility, which is open round-the-clock, can receive treatment without having to worry about basic needs like eating, sleeping and showering.

Food items needed include pasta noodles, canned vegetables, soups, flour, oatmeal, pasta sauce, rice, granola bars and sugars, the city said in a Facebook post.

The center also needs pet supplies including dog and cat food, food and water bowls, leashes, harnesses of all sizes, toys, litter boxes, cat littler, treats, potty bags and cat scratchers.

The city asked that people contact 503-881-1695 or [email protected] for more information about accepted donations and drop-off locations.

Now, here are some of our latest reports. You can find more on our website.
